Product care
General Care:
Keep your gear in pristine condition by regularly brushing off any accumulated dirt, sand, or debris with a soft brush or sponge and cold water. Avoid hot water and detergents, as they can compromise the fabric's waterproofing qualities. After cleaning, let the gear air-dry in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
Cleaning:
Treat small stains or spills by gently dabbing the area with a damp cloth. For more persistent stains, a solution of warm water and pure or organic soap can be used. Apply it with a soft cloth or sponge, then rinse off any soap residue with a clean damp cloth.
Mold Removal:
If mold appears, first brush off all visible mold. Then, treat the area with diluted vinegar, followed by a hand wash using water. Ensure thorough rinsing and air-drying to prevent further mold growth. Areas cleaned from mold may need re-proofing to restore their water-resistant properties.
Re-proofing:
We recommend re-proofing your waxed canvas items annually for enduring performance. Apply a thin layer of high-quality re-proofing wax using a clean, lint-free cloth or a soft-bristle brush. Ensure you follow the specific instructions provided by the wax manufacturer. After applying the wax, allow the gear to sit for at least 24 hours for the wax to properly cure and set. Here is a NZ made product we can reccomend using.
Important Reminders:
To preserve the unique qualities of your waxed canvas gear, avoid machine washing, dry cleaning, starching, or ironing. These processes can damage the fabric and reduce its effectiveness. Proper storage is also crucial; keep your gear in a dry, airy space to prevent mold and maintain its condition.
Designed to age
The Barnaby Blanket, made from heavy-duty 16oz waxed cotton canvas, is not just a product; it’s a piece of history. Designed to endure, it improves with age, gaining character through every adventure. This is gear that stands against the throwaway culture, promising decades of service with proper care.
Embrace the Patina:
Similar to your favourite pair of jeans, the Barnaby Blanket matures gracefully, acquiring creases and marks characteristic of waxed canvas. These unique ‘scars’ symbolize not just wear, but the history of your adventures etched into the fabric.
At Barnaby Outdoor, we believe in products that not only serve their purpose but also tell a story.
